SUBJECT:       HC Update – BC Government Restrictions – Tournaments

As the cases of Covid-19 begin to rise once again, each province is implementing restrictions to keep the public safe and best serve the residents of those provinces.

Late last week the BC government implemented increased restrictions on youth sport in the province of British Columbia, see link and summary below:

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/covid-19/info/restrictions#adult-youth-sport

“BC Sports – Adult and youth outdoor and indoor group and team sports

All sports tournaments and related travel are not allowed.

Non-employee supervisors, coaches and assistants of indoor sports and group activities for people 21 years or younger must be fully vaccinated.”

This new restriction is in effect until January 31, 2022 at the earliest and therefore has ramifications on HC teams travelling to, and hosting tournaments in BC.

Unfortunately, Hockey Calgary has no choice but to cancel all tournament sanctions and travel permits for those teams who planned to travel to BC in the month of January.  A decision on February events will be made in the new year.

If tournament host committees, can find ice in Alberta on the same weekend as the original approved tournament sanction (and there are not additional restrictions implemented by the Alberta Government) Hockey Calgary will support re-sanctioning the tournament to a new location.

At the current time the Alberta government has not put in place any additional restrictions for youth sport, and we will continue to operate as we have all season following the city REP program.  As we get more information from the city and the province, we will continue to update the membership.

On behalf of Hockey Calgary, our Board of Directors, and the member associations I want to thank you for your understanding once again as we work to keep the youth on the ice for the 2021-22 season.

Merry Christmas to you and your families, we hope you enjoy a safe and joyous holiday!!

Regards.
