The Ryan Chen Memorial Foundation Fund (RCMFF) was founded by Eugene Chen and Josephine Yu shortly after their son Ryan passed away at the age of 7 on September 18, 2018, from neuroblastoma cancer.  It is because of Ryan that this foundation was created.  Fundraising initiatives encompass supporting children and families dealing with childhood cancer and promising relevant childhood cancer research and the establishment of an endowment for providing scholastic scholarships.

Ryan played with Trails West in U7 (Timbits) for the 2017-2018 season.

RCMFF is hosting its inaugural charity golf tournament this August 24, 2022 at Blue Devil Golf Course.

Funds raised at the tournament will go to the Alberta Children’s Hospital, Rotary Flames House and the Ryan Chen Memorial Foundation Fund.

Alberta Children’s Hospital

We are raising money to expand the Hospital at Home program. Ryan’s participation in this program allowed the Chen Family a bit of normalcy during a very trying time.  Each visit from a nurse in this program costs approximately $300.

Hospital at Home is entirely community funded and supports patients and their families by:

  • Reducing the time spent in the hospital.
  • Decreasing the burden that comes with hospitalization.
  • Normalizing the day-to-day life for patients and their families.
  • Optimizing physical and psychosocial resilience in patients.
  • Building confidence and competence in families to care for their children.

Rotary Flames House

Just over a decade ago, a community recognized the extraordinary needs of families facing the unimaginable – losing a child – and rallied together to build the beautiful facility that is the Rotary Flames House.  Today this house is one of only six pediatric hospices in Canada and the only one in Alberta.  This house provides comprehensive palliative care service for children with life limiting illnesses and their families.  Grief and bereavement support for parents and siblings are also provided.

The golf tournament is actively looking for sponsors, participants and silent auction prizes.
